The Chicago Boat Company (CBC) kicks off the 2025 summer season April 15 at Marina City (aka “The Corn Cob Buildings”). The CBC has declared 2025 the “Year of Joy” in honor of a late team member. As such, the company is dedicating the season to fun-filled events and a fleet of fan-favorite boat rides.

“We started Chicago Boat Company to give people a chance to see the city from a totally different perspective. This year, we’re taking it a step further, focusing on bringing people together with experiences that spark connection, good times and a little adventure right here in the city,” said Ron Silvia, President of the CBC.

What’s New for 2025

More Special Days: CBC is partnering with local businesses and communities to present a series of new experiences to customers. Special programs include a collaboration with Tilly Bagel for National Picnic Day on April 23, a National Dog Day adoption event on Aug. 26 and a yacht sports catering package with Robert’s Pizza & Dough Company.

Sunday through Friday, guided Chicago history tours run from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., while ghost tours run from 1 – 2 p.m. Also, on Thursdays, a special evening cruise sets sail from 6 – 8 p.m.

The Fleet

Party-Ready Rides: CBC offers a wide range of boats fit for both small, low-key gatherings and large, high-energy parties. Some of the bigger boats even have the option of personal chefs and access to Lake Michigan.

Classic and luxury Duffy Boats seat eight to 12 passengers with covered seating areas and picnic tables. Donut Boats, equipped with sunshades, host up to eight people and offer a 360-degree view of the cityscape. The downtown-only Party Barges come with bars, stools and coolers and hold up to 18 passengers.

Antique-style boats, like the ‘50s/’60s-inspired Retro Boats and the 1964 Constellation Yacht, carry a vintage vibe to the water. The pedal-powered Cycleboats and the canopied booths of the Pontoon Boats add an eccentric flair to each adventure.

Where to Find Them

Throughout Downtown: The boats launch from five marinas, with three downtown locations along the Chicago River: Marina City, Chicago Water Plaza and City Winery. Another is on Lake Michigan at 400 E. Monroe St. and the fifth is at Rockwell on the River.
