This Tuesday, June 21, marks both the first day of summer and International Yoga Day. Celebrate the art of yoga with fellow yogis of all experience levels at these events across Chicago. 

1. Chicago Botanic Garden’s Summer Solstice Yoga Celebration

Become one with nature amidst luscious greenery along the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Great Basin. At noon, Whole Journey Northwest Yoga will guide yogis through an hour of relaxing outdoor yoga. 

Purchase tickets online: $25 for members of the Chicago Botanic Garden, $32 for non-members 

2. Yoga on the Terrace by Ambassador Chicago 

Revel in sweeping views of Lake Michigan and Chicago’s skyline atop Ambassador Chicago’s 17th-floor terrace. This International Yoga Day, Ambassador Chicago partners with Yoga& to bring the public a free yoga experience. Enjoy Yoga& the opportunity to connect with others after class via complimentary snacks and beverages. 

3. Yoga Body Elements in Uptown

Yoga Body Elements will host two sessions in the Uptown neighborhood. Broaden your horizons and mind, with a Kirtan session at 5 p.m. Kirtan encourages greater consciousness via artistic expression. Or, stick to traditional yoga beginning at 530 p.m. Yoga Body Elements is accepting donations and encourages yogis to bring an open heart.

4. Summer Solstice Sunset Beach Yoga 

What better way to combine International Yoga Day and Summer Solstice than with yoga along Lake Michigan? Participate in 45-minutes of yoga followed by a 10-minute sound meditation and refreshments hosted by e.z.yogaspace. The free event will take place at 5:45 p.m. near North Avenue Beach. 

5. Unity: A Celebration of Yoga and Black Men Healing

Lululemon Hyde Park and The Healing Chicago aim to channel International Yoga Day’s 2022 theme, yoga for humanity, by celebrating the healing powers of yoga and emphasizing diversity and intersectionality in practice. This yoga flow for black men is a free event that will take place at 6:30 p.m. 

6. Yoga on the Lawn

Throughout June and September, Healthy West Chicago and the West Chicago Library District sponsor Gentle Yoga every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Classes take place on the lawn outside of the West Chicago Library. For 45-minutes, yogis will be guided through yoga postures that promote mind-body connection. 

7. Wicker Park: Yoga in the Park

End your International Yoga day in the Wicker Park neighborhood. In June, Jul, and August, local Chicago yoga studios Zen Yoga Garage and Eb & Flow Yoga will teach free 60-minute yoga classes beginning at 630 p.m. at Wicker Park Field.

8. Tula Yoga’s Summer Solstice: Sound Meditation

Experience the healing power of sound meditation with Tula Yoga. During this 90-minute session, sounds of thunder drums, gongs, Tibetan bowls, and more will create a “richly cinematic musical odyssey-meditation.”

Tickets are $30 for Tula Members and $40 for non-members. 

9.  Sat Nam Summer Soulstice at Lacuna Lofts

Take advantage of the longest day of the year atop Lacuna Lofts’s SkyDeck. With complete views of the Chicago skyline, this yoga experience is like no other. Sat Nam Soulstice Fest allows attendees to soak in the sun’s energy  via participation in a sun drum dance, sound and energy healings, and meditation.
