If you were asked what the Laver Cup was, or if you knew the last time Chicago hosted a professional tennis event, would you know?
1997 was the last time there was professional tennis in Chicago. John McEnroe won the last pro men’s tournament here 27 years ago (you cannot be serious!). It’s about time one of the greatest sports cities in the world gets to host a premier tennis event.
This year’s contest will feature 12 world class tennis players like Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Juan Martin del Potro, and American John Isner. The players will be split into two squads, one captained by John McEnroe, and the other by Bjorn Borg. Last year’s showcase was a tight battle all three days. Expect more of the same this year as the stars descend upon the United Center from September 21-23.
