Chicago saw its fifth largest blizzard ever with more than 19 inches of snow falling, so why not have some fun with it at Snow Days at Navy Pier.
Fourteen professional sculptors from around the world will compete to create masterpieces from 10-foot blocks of snow and have submitted sketches that touch on nature, history, symbolism, and architecture. In addition, 12 Chicago high-school teams will put their snow sculpting skills to the test and have submitted sketches that if executed correctly will be just as powerful as the professionals. The sculptors begin Feb. 4 and must finish by Feb. 7 where the general public is invited to view and vote for their favorite sculptures.

Continuing with the winter theme, kids can take advantage of the Interactive Snowboard Experience where instructors from Raging Buffalo Snowboard Park will help kids, size 10 or smaller, navigate an obstacle course on snowboards. The Shedd Aquarium will also bring some entertainment with appearances from their Magellanic penguins, who will be available for up-close viewing, and the addition of their Polar Play Zone.
Snow Days Chicago takes place Feb. 7 – Feb. 8 at Navy Pier and Polk Brothers Park located at 600 E. Grand Ave. The event runs from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Sunday. For more information visit navypier.com/snow-days-chicago.
