Chicago is known for fabulous theater but that doesn’t mean it can only be found in the Loop! Check out these neighborhood theaters for a great show a bit off the beaten path.
Black Ensemble Theater
Andersonville
The BET highlights productions that focus on African American history and culture, and
most notably those that depict famous Black artists and performers. Performances here are
known to bring audience members to their feet and have them clap along to the songs being played.
A Red Orchid Theatre
Old Town
Co-founded by actors Guy Van Swearingen and Michael Shannon, AROT has produced
countless critically-acclaimed shows over the years. If Shannon is performing in a show that you
want to see, make sure you get to the box office early because tickets sell out fast.
Rivendell Theatre Ensemble
Edgewater
Rivendell Theatre productions are focused on the lives of women through beautiful and
honest performances. Located in the Edgewater community of Chicago, you’re sure to find a
quality performance whenever you visit.
Victory Gardens Theater
Lincoln Park
This historic theater not only offers a wealth of consistent live productions from up and coming talent, they also partner with Chicago Public Schools to bring art and culture to Chicago’s active student population.
