Chicago is a city known for its public art and rich culture.
This summer, be sure to visit the city’s National Museum of Mexican Art (NMMA) for its annual Sor Juana Festival, which honors one of Mexico’s greatest writers Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. Cruz is a 17th-century Mexican nun, playwright, mathematician, and poet, who is also considered to be the first feminist of the Americas.
The NMMA has hosted this festival since 1994 to commemorate Cruz. The museum began its festivities in April this year and they will continue through June 30. Events include musical performances by artists such as Flor Amargo and talks and lectures by scholars and activists.
