Music is such a perplexing medium. If you look hard enough, you can find a sound you like from any genre. The World Music Festival brings together musicians from all around the globe to celebrate the culture of different types of music. There is no better way to get immersed in a new world. After all, how do you know that you don’t like Ethiopian Jazz unless you’ve listened to it?

This festival will run from September 13th and run throughout the month until September 29th. That’s 16 days! That makes this one of Chicago’s biggest and most diverse festivals. The best part is that admission is free! As you can probably guess, this is presented by the City of Chicago, but produced by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.

You can expect more than 650 artists from over 80 different countries. Some artists perform hip-hop from the Democratic Republic of Congo, some prefer the catchy beats of Sudan, and some live for Venezuelan reggae. For a more comprehensive list of artists, be sure to check out the World Music Fest’s schedule. This is a city-wide festival so be sure to get the right location from the schedule. It might be difficult to get to very single performance, but you can get to the most relatively easy. Be sure to plan accordingly.

If you are ready to completely immerse yourself into a multitude of different cultures and music, then this festival is for you. Your new favorite band might be right around the corner, so dive right in! What have you got to lose?
