This December 9th, immerse yourself in the vibrant cultural tapestry of Chicago at the Chicago Cultural Center’s Open House, presented by the City of Chicago and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE). This marks the third edition of the Open House Series, inviting individuals of all ages to partake in a day filled with enriching experiences, live performances, and engaging activities throughout the iconic cultural hub.
Prepare for a day packed with excitement as the Chicago Cultural Center comes alive with a diverse array of offerings:
Live Performances
Experience the enchanting melodies of Uniting Voices Chicago (formerly Chicago Children’s Choir) and the captivating presentations by Changing Worlds. The Chicago International Children’s Film Festival also offers encore screenings at the Claudia Cassidy Theater on the 2nd floor at 2 pm and 4 pm.
Interactive Art-Making
Head to the Learning Lab on the 1st floor to meet the Artist in Residence, Mobile Makers with CAB Youth Council, and engage in hands-on art-making experiences from 1 pm to 6 pm.
Workshops and Exhibitions
Delve into the world of puppetry with Chio’s Puppetry hand puppet making workshop at the Chicago Latino Theater Alliance (CLATA) Office from 1 pm to 3 pm. Explore thought-provoking exhibitions such as “Freedom Square: The Black Girlhood Altar” and “Great Ideas of Humanity: One of a Series” on the 1st floor until 5:45 pm. Don’t miss the Chicago Architecture Biennial exhibitions spanning the 1st, 2nd, and 4th floors until 6 pm.
Family-Friendly Fun
Bring the kids for SLOOMOO Slime Activation on the 1st floor, craft workshops by Creative Chicago Reuse Exchange (CCRx) at Buddy on the 1st floor, and storytelling and dance workshops on the 2nd floor.
Store Tours and Bingo
Take a tour of Buddy’s shop at 1 pm, and engage in a craft workshop from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Pick up a Bingo card at the Lobby Area Desks for a chance to win a prize.
Live Music
Head to Preston Bradley Hall on the 3rd floor from 2 pm to 4 pm for a performance by Uniting Voices Chicago and catch a live music performance by Son Monarcas from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
Marching Band Extravaganza
Experience the dynamic energy of BandWith Chicago as they perform building-wide from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm.
This Open House promises to be a celebration of art, culture, and community. While RSVPs are recommended, everyone is welcome to join this immersive experience.
