Special Olympics Chicago proudly offers training and competition for children and adults in the Chicago community that have intellectual and developmental disabilities. On November 30th, join Special Olympics Chicago for their Evening Reception benefit event. See below for more details.
All About Special Olympics Chicago
In 1968, the first Special Olympics was held in Chicago at Soldier Field. What started as a simple track-and-field event, Special Olympics has grown into nationwide chapters, providing training and competition for athletes in 22 sports. Special Olympics Chicago recognizes athletes with disabilities and allows them to be celebrated by all of Chicago. These new events are so much more than popular sporting events. Now, children and adults with disabilities can join the mainstream society and participate in the sports they love.
In 1969, Special Children’s Charities was created to help kids of all ages reach their full potential. With support from Chicago Park District and Chicago Public Schools, kids with disabilities are able to enjoy the same sports as their peers. All of these events are made possible through caring mentors, welcoming atmospheres, and generous donors.
