The 11th annual Hyde Park Jazz Festival will take place Sept. 23-24 with two full days of free jazz music by over 150 local, national, and international musicians in 12 venues throughout the neighborhood.

The Festival continues its commissioning program with world premiere commissions to award winning flutist Nicole Mitchell and critically acclaimed Malian kora player Ballake Sissoko for their project Bamako*Chicago Sound System. Other major acts from pioneering veterans and emerging talent include a rare solo performance by Amina Claudine Myers; a duo with Andrew Cyrille and Bill McHenry; brilliant trumpeter Jeremy Pelt with his Quintet including Victor Gould (piano), Vicente Archer (bass), Jonathan Barber (drums) Jacquelene Acevedo (percussion); and a unique duo of Joe Locke and Warren Wolf on vibraphone, marimba, and piano at Rockefeller Chapel. Additionally, the Hyde Park Jazz Festival will also celebrate the 100th birthday of Thelonious Monk with four special programs.
