Volunteer at Open House Chicago

Share

The Chicago Architecture Center is excited to present its annual festival Open House Chicago on October 19-20, 2024. However, in order to make this fantastic event happen, it still needs additional volunteers. Whether you have an interest in architecture or simply wish to spend a day helping out the community, Open House Chicago is an exciting and fun volunteer opportunity.

What is Open House Chicago?

Open House Chicago is a free public festival that offers self-guided history and architecture trails, talks and programming and behind-the-scenes access to historical and culturally significant sites across the city. This year, the fest will feature over 160 different sites across various Chicago neighborhoods and select suburbs. Since 2011, the Chicago Architecture center has organized this festival to inspire people to discover why design matters. It works with community partners, donors, sponsors and government agencies to celebrate local architecture, history and businesses.

What does a volunteer shift look like?

Volunteers will work one shift at their assigned Open House Chicago site. Shifts are about four hours. Typical duties include welcoming and counting guests, answering questions, and assisting with crowd control and line management.

What benefits will you receive for volunteering?

Those who volunteer at Open House Chicago will receive exclusive benefits to improve their festival experience. Benefits include a Priority Access Pass which lets you skip the line at busy sites, a discount on membership at the Chicago Architecture Center and free passes for its walking tours.

How do you sign up?

Around mid-September, the list of participating sites and the Open House Chicago app will become available. In early October, those who have previously signed up to volunteer can pick their site and preferred shift time. Those interested can also reach out to Volunteer Coordinator Carol Courtney with any questions.
