Chicago Symphony Orchestra brings enthralling concerts and performances to the Symphony Center, featuring pre-concert activities and special guests. This week at the Symphony Center, enjoy the Mahler Chamber Orchestra featuring Mitsuko Uchida. Transport yourself to Leipzig, Germany with the music of Bach. 

March 26: Mahler Chamber Orchestra & Mitsuko Uchida

Classical pianist and conductor Mitsuko Uchida will direct the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in a concert featuring two of Mozart’s great piano concertos. With deeply moving and dynamic pieces, the symphony Center performance will be an engaging musical experience led by Mitsuko’s unique touch. Speaking of Mitsuko’s work with Mozart, the Chicago Tribune celebrated “the sense of wonder and discovery she characteristically brings to his music.”

March 28-April 2: The Music of Bach

In Leipzig, Germany you’ll find Zimmermann’s Coffee House, the site of J.S. Bach’s start to his influential career in music. At this performance ranging over six days, be transported to the place where Bach introduced his work. The concert will be led by CSO Concertmaster Robert Chen. The performance includes Bach’s Third Brandenburg Concerto, Violin Concerto in E Major and Orchestral Suite No. 1. Principal Oboe William Welter will be featured in Concerto for Oboe and Violin.

Before the concert, join for a conversation with Johann Buis in Orchestra Hall 75, included with your ticket purchase. The talk will last around 30 minutes.

March 30: Herbie Hancock

Featuring 14-time Grammy Award winner, NEA Jazz Master, and pioneering keyboardist Herbie Hancock, this one-night-only concert is a thrilling instrumental experience. This year is Hancock’s 26th visit to the Symphony Center, and he is well known and beloved among Chicago music. The Chicago Tribune has applauded his “expansive, free-ranging, densely textured performances.”
