Theresa Goodrich’s Chicago Hotspots

Share

During the upcoming Chicago Travel & Adventure Show, attendees will have the opportunity to meet travel industry icons and professionals alike. Think Samantha Brown, Pauline Frommer, The Points Guy, and Theresa Goodrich, known for her website The Local Tourist and her book Living Landmarks of Chicago. We had the pleasure of talking to Theresa about her favorite Chicago things.

Hidden Gems

“Chicago has so many incredible museums! Of course I am a big fan of our Big Five Museums, including the Art Institute, Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, Shed Aquarium, and the Museum of Science and Industry. There are so many interesting stories to tell about all of them. But, on the other hand there are a lot of hidden gems as well”, Theresa continues. “Personally, I think the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, on the UIC campus, is simply phenomenal. It’s Chicago’s dynamic monument to democracy and draws on the legacy of international peace activist, feminist and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Jane Addams.”

“Another one of my favorite places to visit is the Glessner House, which is currently undergoing repairs and renovations but will be reopening in February. I would recommend everyone to take a tour of this National Historic Landmark, designed by Henry Hobson Richardson. This impressive house served as an inspiration to other renowned architects such as Louis Sullivan, Mies van der Rohe and Frank Lloyd Wright!”

Grabbing A Bite

A visit to Chicago is never complete without a good meal, and a stiff drink. Theresa, who use to work at Kinzie’s Chophouse, has a few favorites in the downtown area. “I simply love the Shamrock Club and its perfect bar food. I will have their griddle burger any day! Or how about the traditional pub grub at O’Leary’s? I love it!”

For a more upscale, Theresa loves going to either Quartino or the Purple Pig: “I love these two classics. Quartino can be a little loud, but it is a perfect place to share a few plates with a few friends. Purple Pig is on the fancier side, but still casual enough to go for a quick bite.”

Having A Drink

“For an extensive beer list, I would refer people to either AJ Hudson’s in Lakeview or Monk’s Pub in the Loop, two of my favorite watering holes. If you prefer a good cocktail in the heart of the city, get a seat at the bar at Miller’s Pub. It is one of Chicago’s most beloved classics.”

Theresa will be taking the stage at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center at 4:15 pm on Saturday. She is also an exhibitor at the show, so go see her any time on Saturday or Sunday and enter to win a copy of Living Landmarks, Midwest Road Trip Adventures or Complete Road Trip Guide (for grown-ups).
