It’s about to get a lot colder this weekend but with much more adrenaline as Coyote Logistics is bringing the Hockey City Classic back to Soldier Field.

Michigan State will face the University of Michigan and Miami University will face Western Michigan University in only the second outdoor hockey game ever held at Soldier Field. When the Hockey City Classic launched in 2013 more than 52,000 fans attended and cheered on their favorite teams, and this year we’re expecting even more fans.

Many hockey players’ first memories is skating outside on the ice. Not only will some nostalgia be at play but some fierce competition too as Michigan looks to get revenge on Michigan State who beat them in a tightly-contested game on Feb. 2, and Miami looks to climb the rankings above their current number eight standing.

If you want to get a feel for what it’s like to skate on Soldier Field don’t miss Unite on the Ice. Visitors will be able to skate on the rink during three sessions. In addition, some of the hockey’s greatest players will reunite for game.  Hall of Famer Denis Savard,  Stanley Cup winner Jamal Mayers, former NHL All-Star Adrian Aucoin, and others will take part in the game.

The Hockey City Classic takes place Saturday, Feb. 7 with Michigan State and Michigan facing off at 7 p.m. and Miami and Western Michigan facing off at 3 p.m. at Soldier Field located at 1410 S. Museum Campus Dr. Unite on the Ice takes place Thursday Feb. 5 with doors opening at 5 p.m., and tickets for skating are $15 with proceeds going to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
