The Chicago area boasts the greatest concentration of Frank Lloyd Wright sites anywhere, and the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust’s annual Housewalk presents a rare opportunity to see the interiors of meticulously maintained private historic homes designed by Wright and his contemporaries. The event is a must for architecture and home design enthusiasts, Wright fans, as well as those interested in architectural history and spending a festive day in historic Oak Park.

This year, the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Frank Lloyd Wright with a special lineup for Wright Plus 150, Saturday, May 20. The 2017 Housewalk features:

  • Four private Wright homes: The visionary Laura Gale House (1909), Wright’s spectacular Arthur B. Heurtley House (1902), his Japanese-influenced Hills DeCaro House (1906) and his remodeling in the Harrison P. Young House (1895).
  • A full lineup of 10 featured homes located in an easily walkable loop, just steps from Wright’s Oak Park Home and Studio.
  • Ultimate Saturday, a rare architectural experience that is new for Wright Plus 150. It includes a Fast Pass to skip the Housewalk lines, as well as a private luncheon in Oak Park’s historic Nineteenth Century Club and the Exclusively Wright DinnersSM, a gourmet meal prepared by an acclaimed chef in a Frank Lloyd Wright home.

Among the private homes on the Wright Plus 150 Housewalk tour are examples of Wright’s early experiments and his fully formed Prairie-style homes. Houses by other architects feature Prairie designs and traditional styles. Thoroughly researched presentation displays and docent-led tours are provided at each house.

Also on the Wright Plus tour is the place where Wright’s innovative Prairie homes were designed and his studio architects worked: Frank Lloyd Wright’s Home and Studio. Wright Plus tickets include entry to Wright’s Prairie-style masterpiece, the Frederick C. Robie House in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood and The Rookery in the heart of Chicago’s financial district.

Tickets to the Wright Plus 150 Housewalk are available at $100 each for up to four tickets, $90 each for Trust members, through May 1. Ticket prices then increase to the full price of $110; $95 for Trust members. Ultimate Saturday is $1,350 and $1,200 for Trust members. Guest should allow a full day to enjoy the Housewalk.
