Back by popular demand, Ribfest Chicago will once again treat festival goers to a slew of savory treats from nearly 30 Chicagoland vendors. While its notoriety was largely gained by its exceptional pork rib offerings, Ribfest Chicago has also become an internationally recognized music festival. Make no mistake though, pork ribs are the unquestioned center of attention here with the main event featuring 13 restaurants trying to win the “People’s Choice” award for best ribs.

Ribfest Chicago also boasts the only major rib-eating contest in the Midwest with Ribmania. Last year Adrian Morgan won his first championship belt by eating 2.95 pounds of ribs in eight minutes.

Ribfest is also a family-friendly environment with a kids square open both Saturday and Sunday with inflatables, dancing, mini-golf, yoga, and even a ninja demonstration from “American Ninja Warriors” finalist Ethan Swanson.

The festival started in a parking lot with just five restaurants and a few hundred devoted rib enthusiasts but soon relocated to Lincoln Avenue and has grown to over 70,000 fans in 2014. Featured on the Food Network’s “Eating America,” Ribfest Chicago has become a staple of Chicago’s summer festival lineup for 19 years.

Another ticketed event taking place at Ribfest Chicago is Culinary Fight Club. Watch as four chefs create their best bacon dish in one hour with 15 ingredients.

Ribfest Chicago is located at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue, Irving Park Road, and Damen Avenue. The hours are Friday 5 p.m.–10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m.–10 p.m. There is a $5 suggested donation at the entrance. Kids square takes place Saturday from 12 p.m.–8 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m.–7 p.m. at Northcenter Town Square, 4100 N. Damen Ave. wher you’ll enter off Lincoln Avenue. A $10 per person gate donation or $20 per family gate donation earns your child a prize at the kids square. Culinary Fight Club takes place Sunday from 11 a.m.–1 p.m., and tickets are $35 when purchased before June 8. For more information on this event visit ribfest-chicago.com.
