It still may be chilly out, but the days are a bit longer and the sun is shining brighter, which means that spring is here. Embrace the bloom of a new season with the Macy’s Flower Show.
For over 20 years Macy’s has been creating treats for the eyes with the well-planned and beautifully manicured flower show. This year the department store is giving visitors a tour of the country’s varied flowers and plants with their theme: “America the Beautiful.” The centerpiece of the exhibit is Lady Liberty’s torch surrounded by bouquets of blooms, tulips, and azaleas in the All American Garden.
In addition to the torch you’ll find other iconic attractions and structures from different parts of the country. Hundreds of white hydrangeas form the Washington Monument for the Nation’s Capital Garden. An assortment of grass, azaleas, and daffodils make up the amber waves of grain and the Great Lakes in the Midwest garden. Birch, ferns, and several varieties of soaring pines create a Rocky Mountain garden. The redwood forest of the Pacific Northwest are highlighted by a garden of ferns, rhododendron, and lush begonias. Hydrangeas,
rhododendron, and tulips surround typical lighthouses in the Northeast garden. Enter the tropics with cordyline, orchids, and a variety of palms that thrive in the Southeast garden. End your cross-country trip with agave, yucca, cacti, and succulents. Enjoy your trip with a free audio tour on your mobile device.
Along with exploring the different gardens there are many events taking place during the span of the show. Floral artists from epoch floral, The Petal, Fleur Inc., and Flowers for Dreams will be creating new bouquets every day. You can also enjoy a $12 tour of the flower show and the history of the iconic Macy’s on State Street. You’re stomachs will also be pleased with culinary demonstrations from chefs from Carnivale, The Chopping Block, Coconutz, Chicago Dog’s House, and others.
The Macy’s Flower Show runs until Sunday, April, 3 at Macy’s on State Street located at 111 N. State St. For more information visit social.macys.com/flowershow/#city/chicago.
