Happening in Chicago in November

Looking for something to do this month? November has always been busy. From rolling out of spooky season, leading up to Thanksgiving, and feeling like both fall and winter at the same time. But a busy month means more to do! We’ve rounded up a fun list of events to attend to make the most of your November. Before attending, make sure to check out times and regulations on their websites as safety regulations are changing frequently.

Dia de los Muertos: A Celebration of Life

Taking place now until November 14, The Art Center Highland Park brings to you an exhibit in honor of the Day of the Dead, a holiday celebrated in Hispanic culture. It is a day dedicated to paying tribute to past ancestors that have passed away by creating altars and offerings. The artwork featured in this outdoor exhibit includes work by countless hispanic artists and how they depict their experiences with the lost souls of their relatives. The Day of the Dead is celebrated all over the world, and this is a great way to learn more about the holiday and appreciate breath taking local art.

The FRIENDS Experience

Tired of watching FRIENDS on the couch? If you’re a FRIENDS fan, you no longer have to only watch episodes, but you can live it! Located at the Shops at North Bridge, this event is an immersive experience of set recreations,  original costumes, props, and activities for the most die-hard fans. You can even take a picture at Central Perk. Plan a visit with your friends this November. You can even take home some cool novelty gifts, perfect for the holiday season.

Chicago Botanic Garden brings us their famous Lightscape, opened from November 13 to January 2021. They have transformed their beautiful garden into a winter wonderland and have kept their event completely outside for your safety. From corner to corner, you’re welcomed to a world of color and sound and makes for a perfect outing for all ages. Make sure to bring your camera to take some selfies and capture the moment. Holiday memories are waiting at the Lightscape!

The Lincoln Park Zoo Lights is a tradition for many Chicagoans. The Zoo Lights, brought to you by ComEd, will be back this year, making sure you keep that tradition alive. However, the zoo has set special regulations, like mask wearing and social distancing measures, to keep you safe. In addition, all indoor exhibits will be closed to the public, however, you can wave to your favorite animals from their outside habitats.  This year, they have set a standard cost of $5 per person, however, they will be offering 5 free nights. Bring a group of friends and family to enjoy a night of animals and lights.

Illumination: Tree Lights at The Morton Arboretum

If all those lights weren’t enough for you, the Morton Arboretum will be hosting their Illumination event where they light up beautiful trees, creating colorful effects and leaving you in awe. It truly is a sight to behold. This year, they have redesigned their event to give you a fun and safe experience. Lights will be illuminating across a 30 to 40 min long driving experience, allowing you to take in the spectacle from the comfort of your own car. Fill up your car with friends and family, and drive into this new experience filled with color and brightness.

November has so much in store for you! Chicago is ready to provide you with fun events, all while keeping you safe. The holiday season begins with November, so make sure to kick-off the season strong.
