Back by popular demand “#DateMe: An OkCupid Experiment” brings the story behind a joke online dating profile that will bring laughs and touch your heart.
“#DateMe: An OkCupid Experiment” is based on an actual experiment that the co-creator of the show, Robyn Lynne Norris, made. Norris created a profile on OkCupid just to make sure her friends profile was fine, so she created what she thought would be the most undateable person ever—the craziest of cat ladies. What she didn’t expect was that her undateable profile would be getting more interest than she was getting out in the real world as a single lady. This led to Norris creating 38 undateable profiles and taking the hilariously awkward interactions on OkCupid and adapting it to the stage.
While the show depicts all the crazy things these users said it also adds an improv and matchmaking element where it grabs two members of the audience, asks them the questions asked on an OkCupid profile, and acts out what a date between the two of them will be like. So “#DateMe” gives you the opportunity to laugh at how ridiculous online dating can become as well as give you an opportunity to find your special someone—or not.
With it’s return come some special events. After the March 13 performance take part in a Q&A with one of the shows co-creators Bob Ladewig. After the March 31 performance OkCupid founder Sam Yagan will be doing a Q&A.
