“Deadpool,””Batman v. Superman,” and “Captain America: Civil War” are just a few of the comic book movies coming out in 2016. The genre has dominated pop culture for the past decade so much so that grandmothers are getting into cosplay. The fandom will reach its peak at this year’s Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2).
C2E2 is ready to bring out your inner geek with countless panels, booths, contests, screenings, and activities. The convention offers a great opportunity to meet some of your favorite stars. Meet television’s newest super heroes like Melissa Benoist from “Super Girl,” and Chloe Bennet from “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Chicago’s own John Cusack will also be making an appearance as well as Edward James Olmos. Many of these stars will also be taking part in panels and discussions.
Probably one of the best things to do C2E2 is to just watch all the great attendees dress up in costumes and the best place to catch them this year will be at the Crown Champions of Cosplay. Your eyes will be amazed by how amateurs can create costumes just as good or better than the movies. The judges are heavyweights in costume design like Ann Foley, costume designer for “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” Stephanie Maslansky, costume designer for “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones,” and cosplayer Yaya Han.
On top of all the screenings and events make sure not to miss the heart of C2E2—the comic book publishers, artists, and toy makers. Writer Mark Waid will be having a discussion on what’s next for his “All-New All-Different Avengers” title, and Marvel will have a panel about the upcoming conflict in “Civil War II.” There will also be some exclusive variants just for C2E2 like “Power Man and Iron Fist” #1 by Dave Johnson and Bengal, “Dark Knight III” #1 Matt Wagner cover, and others.
The C2E2 will be taking place March18–20 at McCormick Place South Building located at 2301 S. Lake Shore Dr. For more information on the countless activities and ticket prices visit c2e2.com.
