If you watched the Olympics and wondered why there weren’t more professional volleyball games then head to Oak Street Beach this weekend for the 2016 AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour Championships.
While you wouldn’t expect the cold, windy city to be a strong hub for beach volleyball, the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour has made stops in Chicago every year since 1983. Along with some of the world’s top beach volleyball players competing over four days, attendees will enjoy, food, music, interactive activations, and more.
The first day of the tournament is the qualification period and every day after consists of elimination rounds. While the competing athletes haven’t been announced yet, AVP athletes include olympians Kerri Walsh Jennings, Phil Daulhasser, Casey Patterson, Jake Gibb, April Ross, Lauren Fendrick, Nick Lucena, and Brooke Sweat. The finals will also be televised on NBC.
The 2016 AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour Championships takes place Sept. 1–4 at Oak Street Beach, 1000 N. Lake Shore Dr. General admission is free with the opportunity to purchase tickets for access to special covered premium seating areas and a hosted lounge.
