It’s that time of year where Buddy Guy reminds Chicago and the world that no matter how many new guitar gods there are there is only one Buddy Guy. You have 12 shows left to let the icon give you the blues from your head down to your shoes.
As is tradition every January, Guy will be playing sets at his club Buddy Guy’s Legends, so don’t be that person who missed out on a chance to see one of the most gut-punching vocalists and emotional guitar players that has ever lived. He put out a new album in July, “Born to Play Guitar,” which let the world know he’s definitely not done and they realized it as it debuted at number one on the Billboard Blues chart.
Guy always bring special guests to these shows and this year is no different. You can catch him with local artists like Big James, Anthony Moser, and Nellie “Tiger” Travis.
Muddy Waters is without a doubt the father of Chicago blues, but Guy has done a great job of keeping it alive and strong since Muddy’s passing. Guy doesn’t play and sing the blues for your ears but for your heart.
Catch Buddy Guy until Jan. 31 at Buddy Guy’s Legends located at 700 S. Wabash Ave. For showtimes and ticket information visit buddyguy.com.
