Summer Sweets and Tasty Treats at Navy Pier
Navy Pier Restaurants Chicago
You don’t have to tell us Chicagoans twice: summertime in Chicago is HOT. And at the city’s top tourist spot, you may feel like you just can’t beat the steamy Midwestern heat. And though Navy Pier has many indoor attractions (air condition!), hanging out outdoors isn’t impossible with a quick stop at one of these vendors for a tasty—and possibly frozen—treat.
Navy Pier Restaurants - Ben & Jerry’s
Located in Navy Pier’s famous—and, let’s face it, gigantic—food court, Ben & Jerry’s is the go-to spot for homemade ice cream treats. And by treats, we mean a variety of delicious (and sometimes crazy) concoctions such as Chunk Monkey or Red Velvet Cake. Cups, cones and cakes…you name it. An entire store devoted to our favorite summer cool-down is the cherry-on-top of Navy Pier fun.
Navy Pier Restaurants - Jamba Juice
Also situated in the food court, Jamba Juice a healthy option for a light lunch or an afternoon cool-down. This smoothie sensation custom blends these frozen treats, allowing for experimentation with different fruits or simply trying one of their tried-and-true signature drinks. Better yet? Each drink contains three-to-five of the daily-recommended servings of fruits and vegetables. You go it: a healthy way to beat the heat.
Navy Pier - Garrett Popcorn
So it didn’t end up being a sweltering 96-degree day, but you’re still in the mood to “wow” your taste buds with something wholly “Chicago”. Enter: Garrett’s Popcorn. A staple in a Chicago sweet tooth’s diet, this popcorn shop has been around for over 60 years, whipping up sweets and creating up The Mix. This popular snack is a refreshing combination of Garrett’s cheese and caramel popcorns. Sounds crazy, but anyone will tell you that you just have to try it. This shop is located in the back section of the food court. Follow your nose.
Navy Pier - Seasonal Stands
In the warm-weather months, seasonal vendors pop up around the Pier, selling delicious snacks of the frozen and non-frozen varieties. Some favorites—and most unique—include the Churro Factory (cinnamon-y goodies), Dippin’ Dots (delicious little ice cream balls) and the Taylor Street Trolley (unbelievably refreshing frozen lemonade). Just steps from the entrance to Navy Pier, you can even get your hands on a orange-slushie-ice-cream-float…a creative spin-off of the classic Dreamsicle.
Navy Pier Ice Cream - Haagen-Dazs
This dockside café is reminiscent of stores in Paris and London, with indoor and outdoor seating on a patio perfect for viewing the skyline. Treat yourself to a cone of the world-famous ice cream in a variety of decadent flavors or one of their sorbets or frozen yogurts. Grab a spot in the shade to relax and enjoy a larger sort of refreshment (lunch!), such as a baked good treat, gourmet deli sandwich, or seasonal salad.
