Anheuser-Busch Brewery Tour
The 100-acre Anheuser-Busch Brewery (314-577-2626, 12th & Lynch Streets) in St. Louis is the company's world headquarters and the largest of its 12 breweries. Here, visitors can learn about St. Louis's brewing heritage and how beer is created, from the mashing of the barley through the final packaging.
The tour includes historic buildings, the brewhouse, the aging cellars, and the packaging plant. Colorful displays tell the story of the Busch and Anheuser families. Both beer connoisseurs and novices will appreciate tips offered during the tour, such as how to select the correct glass for beer, and how to pour the beer properly.
The tour is appropriate for visitors of all ages; the complimentary tastes at the end are for those 21 and up. Tours are available daily. Hours vary seasonally.
The brewery is conveniently located just a few minutes south of the Gateway Arch.
The Budweiser Clydesdales
The Clydesdale is a breed of heavy draft horse that was used for farming and hauling heavy loads in days past. They also were used during the early days of the St. Louis brewing industry to deliver beer to local taverns and hotels. Now they are so strongly associated with the Budwesier brand, the brewery and the breed are practically synonymous.
A magnificent team is often seen pulling the red and white Budweiser beer wagon at festivals and parades across the country. The famous horses live at the brewery in a stable with beautiful polished floors and stained glass windows.
On one Saturday a month, the brewery holds “Clydesdale Camera Day” when visitors are encouraged to bring cameras and pose for a photo with one of these gentle giants.
