Edition: Dining in St. Louis

Rainy Day Fun

Author: Beth M. Custer

Things to do when the weather turns soggy.

The Magic House

With more than 100 interactive exhibits geared toward specific age groups, from babies to teens, you won't even remember that it's raining outside. Freeze your shadow on a wall, create a giant soap bubble around yourself, or explore a mirrored maze.  516 S. Kirkwood Rd., 314-822-8900.

City Museum

It's the perfect place to work off pent-up kid energy. A 3-story slide (the kids will insist that you go down it, too), mysterious caves to explore, a giant ball pit, Art City, where you can create your own masterpiece, and an aquarium with over 10,000 creatures will hold their attention for ours.  701 N. 15th, 314-231-CITY.

Laumeier Sculpture Park

Who says you have to stay inside? Put on your fabulous new rain boots and explore over 100 acres of art and nature. The cool damp air and moody atmosphere will heighten your experience as you discover this amazing collection of monumental contemporary sculpture.  12580 Rott Rd., 314-821-1209.

Magic House Saint Louis Childrens Museum
516 South Kirkwood Road, St. Louis, MO 63122

Magic House is the St. Louis area Children's Museum dedicated to hands-on exhibitions and interactive learning for both kids and parents.

City Museum
701 N 15th St., St Louis, MO 63103

The City Museum is a zany, fun-filled place where imagination and surprises know no bounds, and inspiration blossoms where inner child and inner artist meet. Baffling architectural attractions are made of salvaged materials—including old chimneys, pieces of bridges, and construction cranes—that were gathered from all over St. Louis. This fun and funky museum invites visitors to explore caves, walk through a life-size whale, be in a circus, zoom down a 3-story slide, or climb through giant slinkies.

Laumeier Sculpture Park & Museum
12580 Rott Road, St. Louis, MO 63127

This 98-acre park is home to at least 88 pieces of sculpture and is well-deserving of its reputation as one of the nation's finest sculpture parks.
