Winnetka
Overview
Another "North Shore" community, Winnetka boasts an extremely well-to-do population, evinced by the public high school here, New Trier High School (the movie, Breakfast Club, was based here).
Shopping
High-end, boutique stores are the bread and butter of this community; big box retail stores, not so much. You could call the stores here mom-and-pop, but it wouldn't touch the level of sophistication on display around here, at least as far as the merchandise goes.
Dining/Nightlife
The nightlife scene here is pretty staid, but quality restaurants at various price points are all over the place, from classic French to relaxed, family-driven dog-and-burger stands.
Culture & Attractions
The history of this village is on display at the Winnetka Historical Society Museum; see how a small settlement becomes one of the richest neighborhoods in the entire country. You can even take the time to visit the Log Cabin, an early Winnetka domicile.
The Low Down
There's plenty to do here when it comes to drinking, eating and shopping--not so much when it comes to more basic attractions. If you want to play with the high rollers here, come armed with funds.
