Glencoe
Overview
A natural, leafy suburb, Glencoe sits on a bluff through which multiple deep ravines make their way to the lake, making for some interesting turns when driving close to Lake Michigan. A connected series of bicycle trails make the area a favorite for recreational bicyclists, pedestrians and runners. The Greenbay Trail connects a good chunk of real estate for just these purposes. It also acted as the background for scenes in both Sixteen Candles and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, likely because it is the hometown of director Harold Ramis. It is also the home of the golf club, with three major properties calling Glencoe home.
Shopping
This suburb is stocked with a fairly wide-ranging stack of retail options, including many specialty shops working in everything from high-end stationary to jewelry.
Dining/Nightlife
Mexican to French, this neighborhood is filled with eating options, including more down-home choices.
Culture & Attractions
The Chicago Botanic Garden is a gorgeous, outdoor venue of plants and wildlife. Complete with dining, shopping, plant shows, and much more, the Chicago Botanic Garden will take your breath away. While in Glencoe, make a stop at the Writers Theatre for an original production by Chicago natives. The Glenview Ice Center is located nearby, for more active pursuits.
The Low Down
The Chicago Botanic Garden is no doubt the main draw here, and well worth the trip. Local shopping options are abundant, but not incredibly unique.
