Glen Ellyn
Overview
Filled with a rich history, Glen Ellyn had it's beginnings is 1835 when Moses Stacey, a soldier in the War of 1812, built an inn called Stacey's Tavern. It was considered to be the half-way stop between Chicago and the Fox River Valley; today, the tavern has been converted into a museum. With a quaint downtown, beautiful high school, and many wealthy residents, Glen Ellyn is a picturesque town. Old homes are constantly being renovated or torn down to make way for grand rebuilds. Roosevelt Road also contains many stores and restaurants.
Shopping
The downtown has many cute shops and boutiques for kids and adults. Glen Ellyn is conveniently located between Stratford Square and Yorktown Malls.
Dining/Nightlife
On top of the unique restaurants/bars in the downtown, there are numerous restaurants in the area. The downtown has cozy Italian restaurants, a fun authentic Mexican restaurant and bar, an Irish Pub and an all-American bar with live entertainment. All downtown hot spots are close enough to walk and "bar hop" to. Many bars are open til at least 1:00 a.m. on the weekends. Or, stop off for a coffee or ice cream, both can also be found in the downtown area.
Culture & Attractions
The high school is unlike most typical school buildings in that it looks like a castle on a hill. It was even used in the Hollywood movie Lucas. Most residents have a lot of pride in the neighborhood and the quaint Lake Ellyn. Many of the homes are local landmarks and during the 4th of July, residents line up along Main Street (and these beautiful houses) to watch the popular parade.
The Low Down
On a nice day, take a picnic down to Lake Ellyn and enjoy the scenery. Or, walk around the downtown and stop off for a cup of coffee or a smoothie.
