Wilmette
Overview
Comprising some of the most scenic sights in the "North Shore" area of Chicago, Wilmette is a near-to-downtown bedroom commnity that enjoys its access to the Lake Michigan shoreline. Downtown offers a range of local and national shops and stores, plus antiqe stores and home decor outlets.
Shopping
You are more likely to find one-of-a-kind shops here than you are to find large chain stores. Specialty food shops cater to well-heeled local residents.
Dining/Nightlife
The dining scene in Wilmette doesn't have the cache of neighboring hoods like nearby Winnetka and Highland Park, but old-school neighborhood restaurants take care of locals and visitors looking for a bit of tradition quite nicely.
Culture & Attractions
The Baha’i Temple is the only Bahai house of worship in the country. The building and surrounding gardens are well worth a visit, regardless of your faith.
The Low Down
Wilmette isn't so much a destination unto itself (unless you're really there to take advantage of the Lake Michigan shoreline), but is a nice, quiet village without the busy pace of other communities.
