Evanston

Overview

Just 13 miles north of downtown Chicago, Evanston is a thriving, modern community with a rich, historic past. A part of Chicago's famous North Shore community, it's situated along Lake Michigan and is full of public parks and recreational opportunities. With its demographic compromised mostly of 25-34 year olds, Evanston offers its residents and visitors a diverse landscape of attractions.

Like the people here, the retail possibilities include a little bit of everything, whether we're talking clothes and jewelry or even big box retailers that specialize in everything from furniture to high-end electronics and appliances.

Dining/Nightlife

The entire city of Chicago is stacked with world class dining and nightlife options; Evanston is no different. Some of the city's top modern American restaurants make their home here, as do a few very authentic and well-run ethnic dining spots. The after-dark scene is more relaxed than its downtown counterpart (maybe the scholarly leanings of nearby Northwestern University influences that restful mood.

Culture & Attractions

Speaking of Northwestern, the respected academic institution was founded in 1855 and thrives today. In fact, the town of Evanston was named after its founder, John Evans. Evanston also offers a wide range of art festivals, musical events, museums and lakefront property.

The Low Down

Evanston represents what is basically the first suburb of Chicago as you head north from downtown, but the feel here is anything but suburban. It would take intense and regular dining to work your way through the restaurants here, and the diverse make-up of the population leaves one with a decidedly urban feel.
