Lake View
Overview
Reaching Lake Michigan to the east and sandwiched between Wrigleyville to the north and Lincoln Park to the south, Lakeview sits in the heart of the neighborhoods of Chicago. An eclectic hub of dining, entertainment, and shopping, the streets of Lakeview buzz with activity. The CTA's Brown or Red Lines provide easy access from downtown and other parts of the city.
Shopping
From big chains, like the Gap and Express, to vintage boutiques, like the Buffalo Exchange, Lake View's closet is not limited to any one style.
Anything-goes is the name of the game. Find one-of-a-kind antiques or roam Bed Bath & Beyond for home decor. Gourmet food shops, jewelry stores, and florists are only the beginning of the long list of other shops to visit. For the energetic shopper, Lake View could easily take a day to explore.
Dining/Nightlife
It's all here. Whether a Chicago-style hotdog from Chipmunks or gorgonzola-stuffed dates from erwin, an upscale American cafe, tempt the palate, Lake View offers a taste of it all. Cupcakes, a bakery named for its flagship delicacy, rotates its menu through its repertoire of 60 flavors of cupcakes on a weekly basis. Classic Italian dishes like lasagna, alfredo, and veal saltimbocca are always available at La Tavernetta. The neighborhood has a huge selection of eateries featuring everything from pizza to crepes to Korean cuisine.
Culture/Attractions
Expect the unexpected. The Lake View playbill offers a diverse range of theater experiences. The Briar Street Theater is the current home to the Blue Man Group's unique show, which blends drum rhythms, comedy stunts, and audience participation into a show that is anything but traditional theater. To tickle the funny bone, the Lakeshore Theater features cutting-edge comedy. And the Red Tape Theater dabbles into experimental theatrical presentations--be prepared to offer feedback on the way out. It's an eclectic mix of non-traditional theater.
The Low Down
Do not skimp on time--one of this bustling neighborhood's shops or restaurants is sure to peak everyone's interest. Catch a glimpse of where the locals live. And the neighborhood is also home to one of the larger gay and lesbian populations in Chicago. When the city's downtown skyscrapers get stifling, Lake View will be the breath of fresh air--unique theater and a diverse selection of shops and dining.
