Tinley Park
Overview
Recently awarded the "Excellence in Economic Development" award by the U.S. Department of Commerce, triumphing over major U.S. cities, San Antonio and Los Angeles. Originally founded as the town of "Bremen" and major trading outpost along the Chicago-Rock Island & Pacific Railroad in late 1800's.
Shopping
The village's largest and newest shopping center, Brookside Marketplace (located at 191st St. and Harlem Ave.) features several major chain stores, including Super Target, Best Buy, Kohl's, Ulta & Dick's Sporting Goods. Another new local stop is the Park Hills Town Centre complete with Opa's Greek Taverna, Charley Horse Bar & Restaurant, and a local pancake house.
Dining/Nightlife
On Thursday nights, the downtown strip of Oak Park Ave. from 171st to 183rd St. floods with locals to the town's hottest nightspots, including Durbin's Bar & Restaurant, J.W. Hollstein's & Teehan's Tavern for the discount drink specials. Nearby are some great local eateries heavy on charm, but not on the pocket: Ed & Joe's Pizzeria, Bogart's Steakhouse, Olympic Star Restaurant & Hamada of Japan.
Culture & Attractions
The Tinley Park Township prides itself on being "community friendly," especially through its many annual local events, like arts & crafts fairs, summer concert & movie series, and holiday celebrations. In addition, the town offers many recreation activities, including a water park, numerous miniature & professional golf courses with batting cages, nature trails and health clubs.
The Low Down
Still maintains its quiet, "corn-town" charm from 20 years ago, yet quickly on the verge of becoming a major downtown suburban metropolis like Orland Park.
