Woodfield Mall: Specialty Stores

Author: Danny McCullough

The cavernous spaces of Woodfield Mall are home to tons of niche-minded specialty stores that may not be found at the run-of-the-mill mall. In fact, a large portion of Woodfield's stores cater to eclectic tastes, with a wide assortment of tastes covered, so no matter how individual your hobby may be, there's something for it.

Even if there weren't an array of specialty stores, they're worth a mention for the sheer range of merchandise they offer. Everything But Water concentrates specifically on women's swimwear, and each employee is trained to be a "fit specialist" to help size up clients. In addition to the fitting, the store also carries special maternity suits, mastectomy suits, and long-torso suits.

Teavana is a family-owned company obsessed with tea and tea-making accessories, including specialty honey, cast-iron teapots and books on the subject. Tea newbies or seasoned drinkers alike should check it out, if only for the aromas that waft around the storefront. Gamers of all ilks should wander over to Gamers Paradise, which houses board-games, darts, table-top RPGs, and probably the largest collection of themed Monopoly editions in the Midwest. Ridemakerz is also worth a look, as it lets you customize and build your own remote controlled car from the body to the rims in addition to hosting parties for potential "Riderz." Club Libby Lu is on the opposite end of the spectrum, offering your little princess the place to be pampered, specializing in makeovers for 5-12 year old girls with party options and accessories-galore.

Culture also makes an appearance in Woodfield, with the Wentworth Gallery selling works of art in a number of media, including notable artists like Kiss guitarist Paul Stanley, and pop artist Peter Max. For the more nostalgic pieces, Field of Dreams merits a stop, due to their high volume of sports collectibles and autograph signings. Those crafting a bar at home should stop by Scott's Brewery Collectibles; they have everything you need to start it up, including a load of neon signs, branded pint glasses and buckets for bottles. Those in the mood for a custom gift should consider stationary from Papyrus, which carries popular paper printers Crane and Co., as well as designer stationary from Kate Spade, and a load of other writing-related gifts like leather-bound journals. Kaehler Travelworks is where the traveling business types can get everything for their busy lives at a great store with more excursion-related accessories than you knew existed.

With the array of specialty stores, it's a wonder there's room left for the five department stores and more than 300 shops and kiosks.
