Woodfield Mall: Kid's Stuff

Author: Danny McCullough

Toting a tyke around a mall as grand as the Chicago area's Woodfield Mall doesn't have to be a chore. There's more than enough to appeal to a child of any age, and whether they need to be dressed, pampered, or entertained, the mall can take care of you.

Children's fashion reaches near-absurd levels of selection at Woodfield. Babies and toddlers can be garbed in the essentials by Hanna Anderson and Janie and Jack, two stores specializing in cute clothes for cute kids. Hanna Anderson draws on its Swedish heritage to care for bebis, and Janie and Jack suiting your infant in classic pieces of Americana. The slightly older crowd should look to Abercrombie and Fitch spin-off abercrombie to dress pre-adolescents like models, while those with more designer tastes for their kids should head to Lacoste to prep their toddler or teen with the original polo shirt. If your kid is going through clothes so fast it's making your head spin, try the styles at H&M, whose prices will make buying clothes every two weeks that much easier to cope with.

To keep the little ones happy, or just spoil them rotten, the Disney Store is your best bet. They have loads of merchandise and plush toys from favorite movies and past-hits, as well as costumes and sleep-time gear to aid you in your nightly tuck-in routine. Future engineers and empire-builders should head to the Lego Store to let their imagination run wild and delight in one of their theme sets, or go the old-fashioned way and create their own. Don't think it has to be a solo affair, either. Party-planners also have options, with Club Libby Lu offering to indulge groups of little girls with its accessories and make-overs, while a Ridemakerz party would let boys customize their own remote-controlled cars, from headlights to tailpipes.

A good compromise would probably be Build-a-Bear, since their Teddy's can be dressed in outfits suited to either sex, offering the latest in bear couture. Gamers Paradise is also worth a look with the little ones as it has board games, action figures, role-playing games, and more. KB Toys has a store, too, if you're looking for a specific present or just want some free time as your child wanders the aisles.

Seeing this in a day should make your tot ready for nap-time, so take him home or tip-toe around and see what you want to, because there's a good chance Woodfield has it.
