"Corks and Crayons" will feature a sampling of healthy, delicious and family-friendly selections from Webster's Wine Bar's food menu - including an assortment of specialty pizzas, miniature crab cakes and tandoori chicken kabobs - during a causal, laid-back evening of fun. Grown-ups can sip samples from Webster's extensive selection of wines, while younger guests can try juices and other drinks from its non-alcoholic menu.
The event, which will also include live and silent auctions for bidding on gourmet treats and kid-friendly fun, is a fundraiser for Purple Asparagus, a non-profit dedicated to bringing families back to the table by promoting all things associated with good eating.
Purple Asparagus was created in 2005 and has partnered with Green City Market, the Greater Chicago Food Depository and the City of Chicago's Department of Cultural Affairs for a wide variety of cultural and educational programs. It has been a presence at schools, museums, farmers' markets and private events - educating both kids and grown-ups with cooking demonstrations, tastings and other activities. The group has hosted past family dinners at restaurants including Erwin, Volo and May Street Market.
Tickets for "Corks and Crayons" are $60 (nonmembers $65) for adults, $20 ($25) for ages 13-18 and $12 ($15) for ages 2-12. Kids under 2 are free. Money raised at the event will help Purple Asparagus expand its school programs and enable it to teach more families about the pleasures and importance of eating well.
