Museum of Contemporary Art - Specializing in Museums

The Museum of Contemporary Art has been bringing modern to Chicago since its inception in 1945. Just off the Magnificent Mile on East Chicago Ave., the MCA features paintings, sculptures, performances, and films by artists from all over the world.

With an emphasis on the kinesthetic and thought-provoking, the galleries spanning three floors are fresh and always changing. And don't worry if abstraction isn't for you; there are many more accessible works and very helpful descriptions and guides available. The staff also provides frequent tours with background of the artists, techniques, and the works themselves.

The museum also houses a 300-seat theater and a Wolfgang Puck restaurant overlooking the terraced sculpture garden, which hosts live jazz bands and dinners during "Tuesdays on the Terrace" in the summer. On the first Friday of each month, the MCA also previews new artists, hosts local DJs, and serves Puck appetizers and drinks for the 21+ crowd.

Take advantage of the regular workshops, discussions, and free admission Tuesdays. You can find the perfect gift or memento at the two-floor MCA store, which carries books, jewelry, pictures, and more.
