A comfortable atmosphere with American fare is served at this historic restaurant--historic because it was the very first Lettuce Entertain You restaurant, the company founded by culinary entrepreneur Rich Melman. Another interesting note is that R.J. Grunts was the original restaurant to establish the theme that has been followed by other, more commercial "flair" restaurants.

This is where the Chicago-based Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises (LEYE) empire began back in 1971 (LEYE now owns, licenses or manages more than 50 establishments). The casual, nostalgic decor here looks much like it did in the '70s. The menu features American fare, with a focus on burgers (they have 15 varieties), plus chili, sandwiches, chicken wings and a large salad bar. Wash it down with a malt or milkshake; there are over 15 flavors including taffy apple and cinnamon.
