More about Cafe 28...
Short Description:
Cafe 28 offers Cuban and Mexican food with a latin flare including staples such as chips and guacamole and "Southwest Eggs Benedict" plus other options like "Pistachio Crusted Chicken."
Full Details:
Cafe 28, a family-owned Cuban and Mexican restaurant has been in business since 1995 serving breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. Though the place may seem small on the outside, it has a large and inviting atmosphere on the inside that includes two dining rooms as well as outdoor seating.
For breakfast / brunch, they offer both traditional breakfast items like pancakes and French toast, but also foods with a latin flare such as "Huevos Rancheros" and "Southwestern Eggs Benedict".
For lunch, try the "Chino Latino Stir Fry" that includes stir fry chicken and shrimp, seasonal vegetables, and rice with a spicy, sweet sauce; or try the Ropa Vieja Sandwich which is shredded flank steak, cooked with tomato sauce, red & green peppers, and spices topped with fresh sliced onions.
If dinner is more your meal, sample the "Papas Rellenas" which are jalepeno mashed potatoes filled with chicken stuffing and served with saffron cream or the "Honey Jalepeno Pork Chops" which are marinated, grilled, then baked pork chops that are served with sweet potatoes.
Just a brief walk from the Irving Park CTA Brown Line station and minutes from downtown, this restaurant will be worth the trek.
