More about Hideout...
Short Description:
The Hideout is the ideal place to experience Chicago's thriving music scene, with its dozens of independent labels.
Full Details:
A ramshackle ballon-frame house, built in two days over 100 years ago, the Hideout carries the same name it had when it (legally) opened its doors in 1934 - the day Prohibition was repealed.
A venerated institution in Chicago's vibrant music scene, the Hideout hosts eclectic local and touring acts, and many of Chicago's best bands got their start on the Hideout's always-welcoming stage. "It is the place where bands play their first show ever," says the Hideout's website, "and it is where the come back." This couldn't be more true. The Hideout is one of the most vital venues, if not the most vital venue Chicago's exploding independent music scene.
The Hideout is nothing much to look at, and hard as anything to find (due to the fact that during Prohibition it was a hidden, illegal booze haven). It's not easily accessible by anything but car or taxi (or by bike if you're a local). But you're guaranteed the quintessential Chicago music experience at the Hideout - well, well worth your cab fare. For anyone with an interest in new music, the Hideout is highly recommended. Check out their website for a list of shows - or, better yet, just drop by and see what you find.
If you're lucky enough to be in Chicago in September (dates vary) - the Hideout Block Party - and outdoor music festival featuring national acts - is absolutely not to be missed!
