Full Details:
What started as a small spark has turned into a roaring inferno of sheer soccer force as the Chicago Fire enter its tenth season in 2008.
The Fire blazed into the limelight during their first season back in 1998 by capturing both the U.S. Open Cup and the MLS Cup under coach Bob Bradley, the current head coach of the U.S. Mens National Team.
In 2002, Dave Sarachan took over the reins and led the Fire to two more Open Cup titles in 2003 and 2006. This gave the Fire five domestic titles in just nine years.
April 3, 2007 marked a milestone in the life of the Chicago Fire. Using its designated player spot, the Fire signed Mexican international and creative attacker Cuauhtemoc Blanco.
In June of 2007, Juan Carlos Osorio brought his domestic and international experience to lead the Chicago-based club in some new directions, including adding a new head coach (Denis Hamlett), a new technical director in charge of player acquisitions and roster development (Frank Klopas) and two new assistant coaches (Chris Armas and Mike Jeffries).
Best Buy signed a three-year, multimillion dollar contract with the Chicago Fire to be their official sponsor and their first jersey sponsor.
The Chicago Fire call the 20,000 seat Toyota Park their home, but the "Men in Red" did not always have this home. For the first nine years they wandered from old Soldier Field to the Cardinal Stadium in Naperville then back to a renovated Soldier Field. It was not until June 2006 that they acquired this, their permanent home in Bridgeview, Ill.
The 2008 season promises to be one of great excitement as the Fire faces teams such as the D.C United, L.A. Galaxy, the San Jose Earthquakes and many more. Check out the schedule for all of their upcoming games.
