A German beer hall opened in 1898 by immigrant Herman Joseph Berghoff, the Berghoff was the oldest restaurant in Chicago when it closed its doors in 2006.
Shortly after her parents closed the restaurant, Carolyn Berghoff (Herman's great-granddaughter) moved her 22-year-old catering company into the Berghoff building and renamed it The Berghoff Catering and Restaurant Group.
In the Berghoff building, she now operates her catering business in addition to The Berghoff Restaurant, The Berghoff Bar, and The Berghoff Café, a popular lunch-only cafeteria.
The Berghoff Restaurant
The Berghoff Restaurant offers the best of the former Berghoff with an enhanced environment and an expanded menu, complete with a variety of contemporary dishes.
Choose from traditional choices like bratwurst and Wiener Schnitzel, or dishes with contemporary twists, like their butternut squash tortellacci and grilled hanger steak. When it comes to dessert, it’s a little hard to choose: apple strudel in a buttery strudel crust, Black Forest Cake, or, sample a root beer float made with Berghoff’s own root beer and vanilla ice cream!
The Berghoff Bar
The Berghoff Bar offers a variety of bar specials, from seasonal selections to weekly deals. If you're looking for a quick bite, you can also stop by the Berghoff Bar's lunch counter, open 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily, where you can find sandwiches and other light bites.
The Berghoff Café
Located on the lower level of the historic Berghoff building, the Berghoff Café is open for lunch Monday through Friday. Choose from Berghoff classics, a variety of sandwiches and paninis, pastas, pizzas, soups and salads.
Please visit the Berghoff website for more information on hours and directions for each of their dining options.
