Chicago gets a Southern-fried look at fine dining at this new restaurant, opened by top toque Art Smith. Open for dinner only at this point, Smith is well known as personal chef to one Oprah Winfrey, and is also a cookbook author--Back to the Table. The table fare here will be ever-changing, according to the season and even the day of the week, i.e., in the South, Sunday is for big, gravy-filled lunches and afternoon naps (for the lucky ones, anyway). Weekdays, Smith will serve lighter fare. Table Fifty-Two is set in a quaint little building that's served as a restaurant for decades; inside, it's rustic and contemporary with Southern flair, including the cedar wood floor and the copper tin-punched ceiling. An upper-level chocolate and tea lounge is also in the works.
