The Chicago Shakespeare Theater is located conveniently on Navy Pier. It came to the Pier in 1999 and boasts a state-of-the-art $24 million-dollar facility.
The Theater puts on a variety of plays and musicals, not just the works of Shakespeare. They regularly feature children’s plays, comedy sketches and classic performances.
The seven-story complex is comprised of two theaters. The Jentes Family Auditorium seats 500 in a unique concept where the audience wraps around the stage on three sides. The Carl and Marilynn Thoma Theater seats 200 and is often called “the Black Box Theater” as it can be converted to accommodate many different productions.
The Chicago Shakespeare Theater is big on education and offers classes and lectures for students, teachers, actors and audience-members to enrich the performing arts in our society.
There is a full bar and gift shop located in the lobby area.
