The winter months are coming, and while it may get a bit chilly, it heralds the holiday season, and with it, great events like Chicago’s 2012 Thanksgiving Parade. This is a staple of the holiday season in the Windy City, and it’s just one of the many things for visitors and residents to do around Thanksgiving in Chicago. At Concierge Preferred, we’re pleased to offer the details on the hottest holiday events to help you make the most of the coming season.
Thanksgiving Is a Time for Celebration
You don’t need to stay indoors with your family all day on Turkey Day, and Chicago’s 2012 Thanksgiving Parade is a great thing to do with the morning. The event’s scheduled to start at 8:30 am, and will regale viewers — both half a million in person, as well as television viewers — with giant inflatable balloons, floats appropriate for the season, and marching bands. The parade route begins on State Street and Congress Pkwy., and will go to Randolph. If you don’t want to wait in the cold, you can enjoy the show on WGN Channel 9.
As far as things to do in Chicago for Thanksgiving, this parade sustains a venerable tradition. Chicago’s Thanksgiving Parade began during the Great Depression, and has been bringing the residents of the Windy City together and lifting spirits since then.
Of course, Black Friday — the day after Thanksgiving — in Chicago offers plenty of shopping opportunities, but that’s not all. Black Friday marks the beginning of ZooLights at the Lincoln Park Zoo, which involves the zoo’s grounds being decorated with animal figures, multi-colored lights, and more. Admission is free, and visitors can view ice carving demonstrations, ride a Holiday Express Train, and much more. The event will continue through January 6, 2013.
