John Hancock Observatory

Experience Chicago’s greatest high and see the city from a new perspective on the 94th floor of the famous John Hancock Building. Standing inside of the John Hancock Observatory, visitors can enjoy an awe-inspiring 360-degree view of four states- seeing up to 80 miles away on a clear day. It’s no wonder The Chicago Tribune named it “one of the top five places for pictures in Chicago.” The John Hancock Observatory was also named as a Chicago Concierge Favorite.

What to do at the John Hancock Observatory

Along with the amazing view, guests can learn of various city landmarks through the free multimedia sky tour. Narrated by actor David Schwimmer, this information session is available in seven languages (English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin and Spanish) and also comes in a kid-friendly version. And if you’d like a closer look than the naked eye, check out one of the interactive telescopes for a day, night or live view that was the first of its kind in the U.S.

Dining at the John Hancock Observatory

If all of this sightseeing is making you hungry, come grab a bite at Lavazza Espression café, also known as Chicago’s highest café. Designed by three-star Michelin chef Ferran Adrià, visitors can enjoy the award-winning ambience along with salads, sandwiches and unique Italian coffees that are like eating “coffee clouds.” The John Hancock Observatory also offers seasonal events, like Skating in the Sky and front row views for Navy Pier’s summer fireworks and the Chicago Air and Water Show. And, don’t leave without the experiencing the open-air sky walk and seeing how the air feels 1,000 feet high.
