Chic Boutiques

Author: Erin Callier

Satisfy your inner fashionista at unique St. Louis shops.

Shopping is one of the spices of life.  When you find that perfect little dress, you suddenly have extra pep in your step.  If you want to indulge in a one-of-a-kind find that makes your heart go aflutter, then smaller boutiques are definitely the way to go.

It makes sense to begin a day of shopping in either Clayton or Ladue, two of St. Louis's most polished neighborhoods.  Situated in the high-rent Ladue Marketplace, Vie is the kind of shop that has something for everyone and every occasion.  High quality denim that makes your bum look its very best?  You got it.  Elegantly bejeweled formal wear for a fancy night out?  Take your pick.  A present for your best friend?  Well then, happy birthday to her.  This sophisticated shop doesn't have an ounce of the pretension that you so often encounter at upscale boutique, and if you leave here without a purchase, months later you'll still be dreaming of that beautiful necklace you wish you had bought.

For the stylish man with a little more height and width, head west to Dean's Clothiers, where the specialty is upscale big & tall clothing.  Oftentimes, the big & tall man sacrifices style for comfort, but this shop wnsures each shopper both, and will tailor anything to fit your needs.  The store clerks are warm and eager to help you find anything from a three-piece suit to attractive sportswear.  Don't be surprised if you go in to buy a jacket and leave with much more.

Modern and quirky Testimo Boutique has a vibe akin to the boutiques you might find along the trendy streets of SoHo.  The industrial, barebones interior allows the eclectic clothing to speak for itself.  Tough, Ed Hardy tees with their usual skull & crossbones and sexy rock & roll purple ankle boots juxtaposed with pretty, floaty dresses create a hodge-podge of style that immediately sucks you in.  Quirky accessories like the T-Rex necklace and matching studs make it hard to walk away empty-handed.

The moment you step inside Daisy Clover in Webster Groves, you can tell that it is a labor of love for shop owner Natalie Wood.  The impeccable charm and feminine spirit of the clothing and décor provide for the perfect boutique experience.  A collage of celebrities sporting the very same wear found on the racks demonstrates the shop's allegiance to the style du jour.  But fret not, this store also has an allegiance to the every-woman with a sense of style.  Unlike so many boutiques, Daisy Clover offers a range of sizes, ensuring your chances of finding a precious Rebecca Taylor top or eclectic jacket that is just right for you.

There is nothing better than a store that truly cares about its patrons, and in the heart of oh-so-sophisticated Clayton stands Laurie Solet, where the service is inviting and the fashions up-to-the-minute.  Enough cannot be said about this great boutique.  Just go.  Go and be surprised at how much time you will spend in this small space.  There aren't too many places where you can find a floaty Free People dress, awesome denim, a sweet smelling foot scrub, original onesies for future fashionistas, and bra inserts for those who need a littler boost in the bosom, all in one place.  Even if you don't find anything for yourself, you must buy a gift for someone you know, because you simply can't afford not to buy something in this pitch-perfect shop.

With clothing just as flirty and youthful as the name implies, Crush is a bright jewel in Chesterfield Valley.  The sky-blue interior and fresh fashions feel much more South Beach than West County.  Their huge selections of denim and fashionably worn, sinfully soft tees keep it simple, but if you are looking for men or women's clothing perfect for a night out on the town, then a trip to Crush is a must.  You won't find anything meant for the workplace in here, just lots of tops worthy of a "That's hot" from Miss Paris Hilton herself.
