Busch StadiumGet in a little sports and then a little culture in St. Louis this summer. Play ball!

TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME

St. Louis is often called "Mound City"--referring to the Native American burial mounds once common in the area. But, when St. Louis Cardinal baseball is in season, it ought to refer to the pitcher's mound at Busch Stadium--the axis upon which many St. Louisians spin when the "Boys of Summer" are in town. Whether you celebrated when the Cardinals won the pennant in 2006, or cheered while the Red Sox swept the Cards in the 2004 World Series, a game at Bush Stadium is always a lively, worthwhile experience. Seats cost anywhere from $16 to $250. Call 314-345-9000 or visit cardinals.mlb.com for tickets. The Cardinals aren't the only baseball team in town. If you're interested in Minor League play, T.R. Hughes Ballpark is home to the River City Rascals, and a "pitch-perfect" spot to spend a summer afternoon. Tickets for a Rascals game start at $5. For more information, visit rivercityrascals.com or call 636-240-BATS.

FESTIVAL FUN

Throughout the milder months, St. Louisians truly know how to take advantage of the obliging weather. The month of May brings two well-known art fairs, both held May 16-18. Art on the Square features artists and their work, plus a full slate of family entertainment; Washington, Missouri, hosts its Fine Art Fair & Winefest where you can sample from more than 60 Missouri wines and enjoy a juried art show. For three weeks in the month of June, the parking lot adjacent to Powell Hall is transformed into a magical, European-style circus with Circus Flora. Modern theater techniques combined with traditional circus acts tell the story of "Sherwood Forest." On the 5th of July, and every Friday and Saturday through the first weekend of August, LIVE on the Levee will transform the St. Louis Riverfront into a free concert venue with food and fireworks in the shadow of the Arch.
