Edition: Dining in Chicago

Shopping: Chicago Spring Fashion Trends

Author: Rebecca Taras

It's a new Chicago shopping season, but old shopping influences in Chicago are at play. Retail lovers never had it so good.

AKIRA

With most items priced under $100, there is no excuse not to be on-trend this spring. An impressive denim selection covers both trendy and classic styles, while ladies looking to show a little leg will find it hard to choose just one of the fabulous frocks, or playful skirts, offered in a variety of colors and prints. Akira's new Cruise Collection takes a sexy spin on the traditional resort look by incorporating luxurious fabrics and streamlined designs.

INTERMIX

With a staff dressed like Carrie Bradshaw, saying Intermix is fashion forward would be an understatement. Playing on the name, the store "mixes" recognizable designers like Michael Kors with smaller designers like Madison Marcus. Bold colors have a strong presence year-round, but the art-like, silk-screened tops are a playful addition to your spring wardrobe. Accessories are just as fashion-forward as the clothing, offering up chunky jewelry and metallic purses, flowing kaftan dress optional.

ONLY SHE

Even though Only She says, "style is not dictated by the current trends," the impressive mix of international designers and Chicago exclusives makes it hard to escape style. The chic and sophisticated--yet simple--silhouettes that make up the dress collection are elegant, yet functional. One-of-a-kind jewelry pieces, belts and purses impart a personal identity to any look.

WHITE HOUSE/BLACK MARKET

While you won't find the season's hottest hues at White House/Black Market, you will find the hottest trends in shades that turn any spring wardrobe into a practical one. Bubble dresses, pencil skirts, smock tops, puffed sleeved blouses all yearn to be adorned with a chain link belt or neck scarf. Don't forget to walk out the door with your new pair of chunky heels or platform wedges.

ANTHROPOLOGIE

Few stores can replicate vintage romantic charm quite like Anthropologie. Spring dresses, chunky peep-toed shoes, wide-leg trousers and sailor pants, all come into fashion this season, while retaining the class of days gone by. Cuffs and bangles take the lead in the jewelry department and some of the traditional vintage hues are swapped with the brighter colors of the season.
