A Sporting Good Time

If you're looking for a unique way to see St. Louis, the course for the Go! St. Louis Marathon (www.gostlouis.org) will showcase 26.2 miles of the Gateway City's most endearing neighborhoods and can't-miss sights, April 5-6. If you're not among the throngs of runners planning to pound miles of pavement, find yourself a good spot along the route - like the Anheuser-Busch Brewery (2800 S. 12th, 800-DIALBUD) or the finish line at 13th and Chestnut - to cheer on the participants and absorb the energizing atmosphere. When the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships come to the Scottrade Center on March 20-22, a few half nelsons aren't the whole story. In addition to all six sessions of the competition, tickets include access to the USA Wrestling Team practices, coaching clinics, and autograph sessions at St. Louis Union Station (18th and Market, 314-421-6655). Individual passes range from $60 to $150. To pin down your tickets, call 314-241-1888 or log on to ticketmaster.com.

Holy Sightseeing, Batman!

It may come as no surprise that a city founded by the Spanish and French, and named after a devoutly Catholic king, offers many sights deeply rooted in Catholicism and worth a visit by guests of any faith. Set in the naturally inspiring Missouri countryside, the 500 acres that make up the Black Madonna Shrine and Grottos (Hwy F, Eureka, 636-938-5361) are run by Franciscan Missionaries. The site's beautiful mosaics and sculptures celebrate Mary, the Queen of Peace, and aim to bring peace to all those who visit, Catholic or not. In the Central West End, the Cathedral Basilica (Lindell & Newstead, 314-373-8240) displays the grandeur of historic European cathedrals, and boasts the world's largest mosaic collection. As one of the largest outdoor shrines in America, the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows (Belleville, IL, 618-397-6700) hosts several interfaith events each year, attracting over a million visitors to celebrate hope and peace in a serene backdrop.
