Things to do in Spring, plus an exciting season for St. Louis sports fans.
Go Fly a Kite!
The weather may be a little brisk this time of year, so use the spring breezes to good advantage. A visit to LagoonaMagoos (314-227-5335, St. Louis Mills) or Fun Flags & More (314-966-4410, 12239 Manchester Road) will set you up with everything you need to send a kite soaring, from a basic child's diamond-shaped model to a 72-inch mylar parafoil stunt kite. The Discovery Channel Store (314-231-5454, St. Louis Union Station) offers a nice selection of kites in animal shapes.
Sports City
St. Louis is known for its devotion to sports, and this is a particularly exciting season for fans of all kinds. The National League champion Cardinals start the season with their home opener on April 8th at Busch Stadium (314-421-2400). Is there anyone who hasn't heard? The NCAA Men's Final Four, one of the biggest sporting events of the year, takes place April 2-4 at the Edward Jones Dome (314-241-1888). Don't miss the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship Finals at the Savvis Center (314-531-SVVS), March 17-19. If you happen to be here on a day that's not filled with championship sporting events, the Missouri History Museum (314-746-4599, Forest Park) has you covered with its traveling exhibit "Baseball as America," while the International Bowling Museum and St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame (314-231-6340, 111 Stadium Plaza Dr.), with two museums under one roof, showcases the best of both bowling and baseball.
Spring Flowers
Spring in St. Louis is unpredictable. One day can be bright and summer-like, while the next brings snow flurries. But there is one harbinger of spring that we can count on - glorious masses of bright yellow daffodils that arrive every year in mid-March. Operation Brightside (314-772-4646) has planted over 12 million bulbs next to major highways; their cheery blossoms lift the spirits of winter-weary travelers.
